Publication Ethics

The Journal of Nephrology Advances follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines for handling ethical issues in scholarly publishing. All parties involved in publication—authors, reviewers, editors—are expected to maintain high ethical standards supporting the integrity of nephrology research and the scientific record.

Author responsibilities: Authors must ensure submitted work is original, properly attributed, and not under consideration elsewhere. All contributing authors must meet ICMJE authorship criteria and approve final manuscript versions. Conflicts of interest and funding sources must be disclosed completely and transparently in all submissions.

Research Misconduct

Suspected research misconduct including fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and image manipulation is investigated following COPE guidelines. Confirmed misconduct may result in manuscript rejection, article retraction, notification of author institutions, and potential publication bans depending on severity and circumstances of the ethical violation.

Detection Methods

  • Plagiarism screening using iThenticate
  • Image integrity review during processing
  • Statistical examination for anomalies
  • Post-publication monitoring for issues
  • Reader and community reports investigated

Response Procedures

  • Confidential investigation following COPE
  • Author notification and response opportunity
  • Institutional notification when appropriate
  • Correction or retraction as warranted
  • Transparent statement of action taken
Conflict of Interest

All parties must declare potential conflicts of interest that could influence their judgment. Authors disclose funding sources and relationships at submission. Reviewers recuse themselves from manuscripts where conflicts exist. Editors do not handle manuscripts with personal or professional conflicts affecting objectivity in evaluation.

Human and Animal Research Ethics

Research involving human participants requires documented ethics committee approval with informed consent procedures described. Animal research requires institutional animal care committee approval with humane treatment confirmation. Clinical trials must be prospectively registered in recognized public registries with registration numbers provided in manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Nephrology Advances.

Corrections and Retractions

Errors identified post-publication are addressed through appropriate mechanisms. Minor errors receive errata or correction notices. Significant errors affecting reliability prompt consideration of retraction. All corrections and retractions are published transparently with clear explanation of issues and linked to original publications for transparent scientific record maintenance.
