Splenic Vein Thrombosis

Splenic vein thrombosis (SVT) is the formation of a blood clot within the splenic vein, which supplies blood from the spleen to the liver. It is a potentially life-threatening condition that can lead to the enlargement of the spleen, abdominal pain, and other serious complications. SVT can be caused by existing conditions, such as cirrhosis or pancreatitis, as well as by trauma to the abdomen or chest. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential in order to reduce the risk of serious complications. Treatment typically consists of anticoagulant medication and steps to reduce the risk of further DVT. SVT can be a serious condition, but with proper treatment and a healthy lifestyle, it can be managed successfully.
