Biological Molecules

Biological molecules are the building blocks of life. They are made of atoms and range in complexity from simple molecules like carbon dioxide and water to the macromolecules such as proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids that are responsible for the structure and function of cells and organisms. Biological molecules are essential for life, providing the chemistry of metabolism, growth, and reproduction. Their importance is reflected in the variety of ways in which they are studied, from medical diagnostics to biotechnology research. Understanding how these molecules are structured, how they interact with each other, and how they are regulated is key to understanding the many ways in which living organisms operate.
