Before you begin

Prepare a complete, relevant manuscript

Review the author instructions and prepare all required manuscript information before submitting.

  1. Check manuscript fit

    Confirm that the work has a substantive connection to psychotherapy practice or research. IJPR accepts Original research, Reviews, Case reports, and Clinical notes and practice innovations.

  2. Prepare the manuscript record

    Use the author instructions for the manuscript structure, title page, structured abstract, keywords, author details, references, tables, figures and supplements where applicable.

  3. Review applicable declarations

    Review authorship, funding, competing interests, ethics and consent, data access, registration and reporting guidance before submitting.

Preparation material

What to have ready

Have these details ready so the editorial office can assess scope, authorship, ethics, transparency and file completeness.

Manuscript and author details

  • Title page with author names, affiliations and corresponding-author information.
  • Structured abstract and 3–6 keywords.
  • Word count, references, tables, figures and supplementary material where applicable.
  • Authorship contributions and final-author approval.

Research transparency

  • Funding and competing-interest information.
  • Applicable reporting guidance for the study design.
  • Trial registration information for interventional psychotherapy studies, where applicable.
  • Data-availability or access-restriction information where applicable.

Human participants and clinical material

  • Ethics-review information or a documented basis where review was not required.
  • Consent procedures for research involving human participants.
  • Careful de-identification of clinical or participant material.
  • Written permission for potentially identifiable client information, where applicable.

Fees and editorial assessment

The standard APC is USD 1,499 per accepted article. Submission and peer review are free, and payment is requested only after formal acceptance. Editorial assessment is independent of fees.

Psychotherapy research

Protect sensitive participant and clinical information

Research consent is not the same as permission to publish identifiable material. Do not include client, patient or participant information that is not necessary and appropriately protected for editorial assessment.

Case material, transcripts, recordings and quotations
Do not submit therapy-session notes, recordings, direct identifiers, signed consent documents or other identifiable material. Before submission, review the author instructions and editorial policies for confidentiality, de-identification and consent-to-publish requirements.
Vulnerable participants and dual relationships
Work involving minors, vulnerable participants or therapist–researcher relationships requires careful ethical review, consent and confidentiality safeguards. Institutional ethics approval does not replace professional, legal or consent obligations.
AI-assisted tools and sensitive material
Do not upload confidential manuscript or participant material to external AI tools. Disclose material use of AI-assisted tools in the manuscript; authors remain responsible for the submitted work.
