Overview
Systolic heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is an abnormal condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to the rest of the body. It occurs when the left ventricle of the heart is weakened or damaged, and is unable to contract properly. The most common cause of this is long-term high blood pressure. Symptoms may include fatigue, shortness of breath, swollen ankles and feet, irregular heartbeat, and chest pain. Treatment options depend on the severity of the condition, and can include lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery. Early diagnosis and proper management can improve quality of life and prolong survival in those with systolic heart failure.
